VERDURE-TARIANS AT EATALY

My sister Arielle and I were walking through New York and we decided it was time to eat again. A week earlier I was at dinner at Il Pastaio in Beverly Hills and Giacomino, the owner/chef told me to check out this place, Eataly in New York.  I love this man's food and trust him completely,  so when I saw we were only a few blocks away it was a simple decision.

From the outside, this place looks like a small storefront for a gelato place, with standing room and a few tables. Once you walk inside and maneuver the crowds, you enter heaven, pretty much.  Floor to ceiling shelves of the most incredible Italian oils, vinegars, pastas, breads, olives, sweets, vegetables, meats, wines and beer... Plus specialty counters (Il Pesce, La Rosticceria, La Pasta, I Panini...) where you can sit and eat.  Arielle and I grabbed a glass of wine, gathered our bearings, and sat down at Le Verdure counter, because we are both lifelong vegetarians (with Arielle's exception for bacon) and we were really excited to see an all veggie menu.

We ordered the Scarola alla Griglia (twice!), blistered shishito peppers with fleur de sel, roasted tomato and pesto bruschetta, eggplant parmesan with spaghetti squash, and the Piatto Misto which had a little of the lentil soup, the fritto misto, and two different salads.

I have never experienced a more delightful place to have lunch. Not only did I go with a very close old friend of mine, then to have ordered the eggplant with multi cheese layers that will stay with me for the rest of my life. One would never imagine to experience those flavors and all separate in your mouth and then it was so light and later i wished I could go back for more. I was raised by a first generation Mom and grandmother who would of enjoyed this as well. Thank you!!!I wish I didn't live in Powell Ohio
I will be back for sure!
